The Johnson Public Library is proud to announce a generous $250,000 gift from the Oritani Charitable Foundation to support the creation of the Oritani Teen and Community Center, a major renovation of previously under-utilized space that will enhance library services for Hackensack residents of all ages. The Oritani Teen and Community Center will feature a dedicated teen space, three quiet study rooms, and a conference/meeting room accommodating up to 25 people. The gift will also support the modernization of staff workspaces to better meet the evolving needs of 21st-century library professionals.
“This gift will change the Johnson Public Library for decades to come. The Oritani Teen and Community Center will provide modern spaces for Hackensack residents to work, study, and play. The teen space will be equipped with computers, seating, tables, and an expanded area for our young adult collection. The study rooms and meeting space will be outfitted with integrated technology not previously available in the Library to help our community access the greater digital world and help us continue to serve as the City's destination for discovery, learning and making connections,” said Library Director Tara Marie Cooper.

Work has already begun and the new spaces should be available for public use in April. The rest of the Library will remain open throughout the construction period with all collections and most services available.
The Johnson Public Library is deeply grateful for the support of the Oritani Charitable Foundation, whose longstanding commitment to local communities has made this investment possible.
About the Oritani Charitable Foundation
The Oritani Charitable Foundation is a private foundation initially established in 2006 by Oritani Bank. While the bank was acquired by another financial institution in 2019, the Foundation continues to operate independently.
The Foundation primarily seeks to assist not-for-profit groups that benefit Oritani Bank’s former service areas in Northern New Jersey. Its support serves as a way of saying “thank you” to these communities for helping to make the Bank successful. The Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by focusing on needs such as food security, health and human services, youth programs, individuals with disabilities, education, and recreation.
Through its various efforts, the Oritani Charitable Foundation continues to uphold the values of Oritani Bank by contributing to the welfare and development of local communities.
